I finally found and installed a mere perfect white laminate flooring for my natural light photography studio. Finding the perfect white laminate flooring was no easy task. I’ve searched for years and found something I am comfortable with that will still allow me to create a light and airy appearance seen in my work.
Prior to this install, I used individual pieces of shiplap which I painted white. Despite being beautiful and a true white floor, the maintenance was awful. I would have to give the boards a fresh coat of paint every few months. The only thing that seemed to keep them clean is Mr. Eraser sponges which I had to use on my hands and knees. Not exactly a great use of my time.
Thankfully, I have an awesome husband who led our flooring renovation project and we were able to complete this installation in one night. We are a bit of a DIY couple when it comes to projects like this and we have done quite a few home improvements ourselves. I know that sort of thing isn’t for everyone, but it’s fun for us and saves a ton of money on labor. We find that if we have patience with each other, good music, and access to Youtube we can pretty much figure out anything.
I also added a few new touches to the studio like my white futon sofa. I cannot wait to use this futon during my next portrait session. I love its modern look. It is also lightweight which makes it easy to move around the studio. Most of all, it opens flat into a bed giving me more versatility for posing clients.
I hung additional shelving up behind my door to display some of my favorite neutral toys. I love using wooden toys during my sessions to create organic, timeless portraits. Each item is so cute and worthy of showcasing rather than storing them in a basket.
I think one of the things that I love most about my new flooring is that I am now able to move my bench in front of my large window for backlit poses. I’m a huge fan of backlit photography, but I found that not having flooring that extended throughout my studio created limitations on where I could shoot without having to do extensive time in Photoshop extending flooring. I get thrilled thinking of all of the editing time I’ll be saving in the future.
